The "Exchange, MAPI, and HTTP" paragraph in the "Email Servers" Section of "Servers and Services" doesn't mention Exchange outside of the header. MAPI, or Messaging Application Programming Interface, is based on a proprietary RPC-based communication used to interact with Exchange. MAPI is very similar to IMAP with some additional features.
